On the LiguriaHomes Casamare real estate agency website you will find a wide selection of villas for sale in Imperia.
Who wouldn't want to live in the heart of the Flowers Riviera, between the hills, where the precious olive oil is born, and the characteristic port?
The history of Imperia is very particular, because it arises from the merger of Oneglia and Porto Maurizio. The best way to get to know it is to explore it by foot, walking through the cobbled streets in the shade of the arcades or getting lost in the alleys. Oneglia is the most modern part of Imperia, characterized by the particular promenade with ancient colored fishermen houses (pink, yellow, orange, green) and the Doria palace.
A cornerstone of olive oil production, the Olive Museum could only be born here, strongly desired by the Carli family, a very interesting exhibition space composed of different thematic itineraries to learn about the millenary history of olive trees.
Absolutely recommended is a visit to Villa Grock, built in Art Nouveau style, surrounded by a fairytale and scenographic garden, residence of the famous Swiss clown Charles Adrien Wettach and home to the Clown Museum. The Clown Festival (Grock Festival) is worth mentioning.
The oldest soul of Imperia is Porto Maurizio: a fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets, alleys and creuze (narrow lanes) almost vertically on the rock, very suggestive.
Not to be missed is the spectacular view of the gulf from Parasio, an ancient medieval village characterized by many narrow alleys lined with ancient houses. Going down towards the sea, you will arrive in Porto Maurizio, today a tourist port that attracts thousands of visitors every two years on the occasion of the Vele d’Epoca event (for over 30 years, a key event in classic regattas in the Mediterranean).
Porto Maurizio is home to the largest church in Liguria, the Cathedral Basilica of San Maurizio, where you can admire frescoes, paintings and sculptures by some of the greatest artists of the nineteenth century (Maragliano, Finelli, Coghetti, Piola, Viazzi and others). The structure is imposing, built in neoclassical style, with a facade of eight columns in Doric, Ionic and Corinthian style.
